LATEST LIFE UPDATES:
August 21st - Life is complicated...
Very personal update this time, I guess. Not been doing well mentally lately. Burnout and depression have been real...but I got some changes made to my treatment plan now and hoping that will help...eventually.
There's ten days left for me in my current position, as the project I've been working for comes to an end. I'm glad for it to be over finally, but at the same time worried about being left with no income and no clear plan. I've been forced to make some big decisions related to my future in academia, and right now I'm pretty set on taking a gap year from working on my PhD and/or with other research projects.
I'd like to try and find a new line of work that would be more accommodating and overall more suitable for my disabilities, but knowing how bad the job market is doing in Finland overall, my hopes aren't too high and it makes me quite worried.
For now, I'm trying to take it one day at a time and focus on my hobbies and interests. I finished replaying RE5 this week and have been working on some new poster designs based on stills from footage I recorded. It's been nice to channel some nervous energy into art.
How I feel right now:

on the nature of the eccentric himself; aka a current life's context, in brief summary
(Currently undergoing big changes in my life, new summary coming...someday soon :P)
As is probably evident by now, I like to learn about all sorts of things and enjoy accumulating knowledge on various topics. I often present myself as a kind of a fool online (though the silliness really is a big part of me, don't get me wrong, I'm not faking it!), but I am, in truth, rather serious about all my passions and fiercely dedicated to things dear to me.
I've always enjoyed getting to understand how things work, what they comprise of and why certain things happen in certain ways. If I see something that could be improved or optimised, I am eager to get to solve these problems. These are the main reasons I naturally gravitated towards research and teaching on my career as well.
why i love lurking
I'm really happy to have found this site, as it offers a space for me to share all of my more or less strange special interests, which I don't get to do much otherwise. It's nice to be able to curate my own pages without worrying about the judging eyes and constant pressure that come with most social media platforms.
Since the start, I've continued to be positively surprised, time and time again, by how lovely and kind people here are. It feels like there is actual interest here for the things I make and talk about, when in the past I've often been bullied and ostracised for having weird hobbies and interests. Also, using this site as an outlet for infodumping helps save my friends' and family's social battery and nerves! Though they will never be fully spared from the Wesker propaganda (sorry not sorry mom and Emma, love you both)...
Additionally, as someone who has a very public presence due to their work and who tends to stand out for various reasons in their field of academia, I enjoy being less recognisable online while still getting to share a community with cool people. Still, if somehow you think you know me from real life, or even have a guess at my identity, please don't out me publicly, thanks! I like to keep my free time and professional life separated as much as I can!
your resilience pleases me / sorry, not sorry about my wordiness
I don't tend to except people to read through most of my writings on lurk in detail, as they tend to be lengthy and lean towards topics that probably only a specific group of people find fascinating enough to really delve into.
If you are, however, taking the time to read through this chronicle (or any of my other longer texts), I commend you! And you should know that I really appreciate it!
I think both my academic and creative writing background are visible in the things I write and talk about. At least, if you look at the walls of text I write and the sometimes big words I use regardless of topic, you can probably see a pattern and a possible cause. And in addition to my background, it's probably the autism, as well. With time, my lurk has become more and more focused on different kinds of tributes to my special interests, and I adore the fact that there is a platform like this for me to do so.
As of late, I occasionally worry whether people think some of the essay-length text sections on my pages are written using AI, especially since I tend to favour some more obscure expressions, get stuck on tangential details and enjoy using the em-dash, but you can rest assured that I am an avid AI hater and a passionate speaker and writer. Honestly, one of my greatest fears is that some of my creative writing might be fed into AI and regurgitated out of it in a butchered form. I haven't had the guts to check if it's already happened. Chances are that the answer is "yes", but for now, ignorance is bliss...
miscellaneous facts about me
⋆ I have a BA in English language and linguistics and an MA in multilingual translation studies. My research interests are in translator training, translation technologies and literary translation.
⋆ my favourite colours are brown and green
⋆ my go-to horror genres are survival, Lovecraftian, gothic, surreal and psychological horror
⋆ I studied Latin for a couple of years in the past and I really want to get back to it someday and learn it properly
⋆ I am enthralled by Lynchian media. If I had to pick one absolute best movie/series of all time, it would be Twin Peaks. That show had such an impact on me I can't really even describe it. No one captured the essence of how dreams feel better than David Lynch.
⋆ I don't have pets of my own and I don't want to commit to taking care of one full-time, but I am the designated "third parent" to my aunt's lovely chonker, Tellervo (see photos below!) and I usually look after her whenever her family is travelling. She is my baby.
⋆ more facts later...
₍^. .^₎⟆ TELLERVO APPRECIATION ₍^. .^₎⟆
This here is Tellervo, my auntie's cat and my part-time baby. She is a very photogenic and a bit clumsy bengal chonker. Tellervo is quite the diva, loves food more than anything else, is super good at solving puzzles (if treats are involved) and is a very sensitive cat due to mistreatment in her past. Tellervo has very strict boundaries: she will never sit on anyone's lap, hates being picked up and only tolerates pets from a select few. She still likes to stay close and observe what people are doing. If you manage to earn her affection, she will let you scratch her head and may even loaf up next to you on the couch, which is to be taken as the ultimate sign of respect. I love her to bits <3
